Information we collect

We collect information that you choose to provide, such as your email address when you subscribe to the newsletter and your name, email address, website, and comment when you leave a comment. Our website and service providers may also collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, referring page, pages visited, and cookie data for security, spam prevention, site operation, and analytics.

Newsletter subscriptions

If you subscribe to LivingJamie emails, we use the email address you provide to send the content you requested. Our newsletter services may record the IP address used at signup to prevent abuse and may track email opens and link clicks so we can understand and improve our newsletters. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link included in each newsletter or by emailing hello@livingjamie.com.

Comments and spam prevention

When visitors leave comments, we collect the information shown in the comment form along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to help detect spam. An anonymized string created from your email address may be provided to Gravatar to determine whether you use that service. After a comment is approved, your profile image may be publicly visible with your comment.

Comments may be checked through Akismet, an automated spam-detection service. Akismet typically processes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, site URL, name, email address, website address, and comment content for spam prevention.

Cookies and analytics

If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience. These comment cookies may last for one year. WordPress.com and Jetpack may also use cookies or similar technologies for essential site functions, security, performance, audience measurement, and analytics.

Analytics information helps us understand which content is useful and how visitors use the site. This information may include pages viewed, approximate location based on IP address, browser or device information, referring pages, and interactions with the site.

Embedded content and external links

Articles may include embedded content such as videos, images, or posts from other websites. Embedded content behaves as though you visited the other website directly. Those websites may collect data, use cookies, and monitor your interaction according to their own privacy policies. LivingJamie is not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites.

Service providers and data sharing

We use WordPress.com and Jetpack to host and operate the website, MailPoet and WordPress.com services for newsletter delivery, Akismet for spam detection, and Gravatar for optional commenter profile images. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services, protect the site, deliver requested emails, and measure performance.

How long we retain information

Approved comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically. Newsletter subscription information is retained while you remain subscribed and as needed to maintain unsubscribe records, prevent abuse, or meet legal and security requirements. Technical and analytics records are retained according to the practices of the services described above.

Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with you. You may also withdraw newsletter consent at any time. To make a request, email hello@livingjamie.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and we may retain information required for administrative, legal, fraud-prevention, or security purposes.

Children’s privacy

LivingJamie is written for parents and caregivers. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, please contact hello@livingjamie.com so we can review and, where appropriate, remove it.

How we protect information

The website uses HTTPS encryption and WordPress.com security protections. We limit access to website administration and use service providers that maintain security measures for their systems. No method of internet transmission or electronic storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
