Oh, handwriting. Such a simple little subject… until you’re sitting next to a first grader who has forgotten what a space is, decided every letter needs to be the size of a skyscraper, and somehow lost their pencil three times in five minutes.
Sound familiar? Just us? Haha!
Learning to write is a BIG job for little hands. There are letters to form, lines to stay inside, capital letters to remember, and those sneaky little periods that seem to disappear whenever nobody’s looking.
But what if handwriting practice could be about more than just getting those letters on paper?
What if those little sentences could also open the door to sweet conversations about God, kindness, thankfulness, and loving others?
That’s exactly the heart behind my God & Me Handwriting Printables!
I wanted something simple, meaningful, and easy to pull out during our homeschool day. No complicated setup, no giant supply list, and definitely no need to turn handwriting into an hour-long production.
Just a pencil, some crayons, a few little hands learning to write, and an opportunity to point those little hearts toward Jesus.
Packet 1: Little Letters, Big Beginnings!
Everybody has to start somewhere, right?
And sometimes that somewhere is writing "God loves me" while trying very hard to remember which direction the letter d goes.
God & Me: First Grade Handwriting starts with short, sweet sentences that are just right for little writers finding their confidence.
You’ll find sentences like:
- "God loves me."
- "God made me."
- "I can be kind."
Simple? Absolutely!
But there’s something lovely about those little words.
Each worksheet includes a sentence to read together, dotted letters to trace, blank lines for independent writing, a drawing activity, and a little question to get a conversation going.
For example, after practicing "God loves me," your child gets to draw someone they love and answer:
"How can you show love today?"
Maybe they’ll say they can help Mom with the dishes. Maybe they’ll decide to share their favorite toy with a sibling.
Or maybe they’ll announce that they love the dog more than anybody else.
Well… at least we’re talking about love! Haha!
And that’s what I enjoy about this idea. We’re practicing handwriting, but we’re also creating little moments to talk about things that matter.

Packet 2: Growing Writers, Growing Conversations!
Once those short sentences start feeling a little easier, it’s time to stretch those writing muscles!
God & Me: More Words, More Practice builds on Packet 1 with longer sentences, a little more copying, and plenty of opportunities for thoughtful conversations.
Each worksheet has two sentences to trace, three blank writing lines for copying, a drawing activity, and a question to discuss together.
One of the first lessons is called "A Thankful Morning."
The sentences read:
"God made the bright blue sky."
"I can thank Him for this day."
Then your child gets to draw something they’re thankful for!
And isn’t it funny what children come up with when you ask them questions like that?
We might be thinking about family, food, or the beautiful world God created.
They might be thinking about dinosaurs, pancakes, or that really cool rock they found outside.
And you know what? Those are pretty wonderful things to be thankful for, too!
Throughout Packet 2, children practice sentences about prayer, helping others, patience, forgiveness, gentle words, and praising God.
Nothing complicated. Just everyday lessons that can help us turn an ordinary handwriting session into a sweet little conversation.
And don’t worry if your child needs help reading the sentences. This is handwriting practice, not a pop quiz! Read together, help with unfamiliar words, and enjoy the process.

Because Homeschool Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated!
Can I tell you something?
I love the idea of beautiful homeschool lessons. The perfectly sharpened pencils, the neatly organized supplies, the happy little children eagerly waiting to learn…
And then there’s real life.
Someone needs a snack. Someone can’t find their eraser. Someone else is singing at the top of their lungs.
And somehow we’re only ten minutes into the morning!
That’s why I love keeping things simple.
These packets are designed to be print-and-go. Each one contains 15 handwriting worksheets, plus a cover, parent instructions, and a printing guide.
That’s 30 handwriting practice pages between the two packets!
But please don’t feel like you need to rush through them.
One worksheet a day? Wonderful.
A few worksheets throughout the week? Perfect.
Half a worksheet before somebody needs a snack? Hey, that counts too!
If your child is getting tired after tracing, save the copying or drawing for later. If they’re especially excited about the picture, let them enjoy it.
Learning doesn’t have to happen on a stopwatch.
And don’t forget to celebrate those little victories! A beautifully formed letter, a remembered capital, or a whole sentence with actual spaces between the words.
Sometimes that’s a pretty big accomplishment!
Little Hands Can Learn Big Truths
One thing I especially love about combining faith and handwriting is that it gives us opportunities to talk about God during the ordinary parts of our day.
We don’t always need a big lesson, a fancy craft, or a perfectly planned Bible study.
Sometimes a simple sentence like "I can be kind" is enough to begin talking about what kindness looks like in our home.
What does it look like to be patient with your brother or sister?
How can we show love when someone is having a hard day?
What are some things we can thank God for this morning?
These are little conversations, but they’re worth having.
And of course, these handwriting sentences aren’t Bible verses themselves. They’re original faith-themed practice sentences that can help lead us into Scripture.
I love the idea of keeping our Bibles nearby and looking up a related passage together. That way, our children get to hear what God actually says in His Word, too.
Because while we’re teaching little hands to write, we have a beautiful opportunity to help guide little hearts toward Him.
And that, sweet mama, is worth a whole lot more than perfectly formed letters.
