Psalm 24 Devotional for Moms and Kids: Who Is the King of Glory?

Psalm 24 is one of those soul-stirring chapters that lifts your eyes from the mess on the floor to the majesty of God. It’s only 10 verses long, but oh, what a powerful 10! This psalm reminds us who God is, how we draw close to Him, and just how glorious it is when He enters our everyday lives.

Let’s walk through it together—with a mom heart in mind.

Verses 1–2
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.”

Everything belongs to God. The laundry, the squeaky toys, the nature walk treasures shoved in your pockets—they’re part of His creation. These verses settle our hearts with this truth: we’re not alone in managing it all. He made it. He holds it. He’s in charge.

This also makes a perfect start to a homeschool nature study: “God made the world, and He lets us explore it!” Let your kiddos collect leaves, trace acorns, or find their favorite “God-made thing” to draw. Even simple things become sacred when we remember who made them.

Verses 3–6
“Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.
They will receive blessing from the Lord
and vindication from God their Savior.”

Whew. If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Am I doing enough to be close to God?”—you’re not alone. But this isn’t about perfection. This is about sincerity. A soft, honest heart. It’s choosing kindness when it’s hard. It’s admitting when we mess up. It’s wiping tears and whispering prayers over Cheerios and spilled milk.

Moms, this is good news: God sees your hands AND your heart. And when you seek Him—even in chaos—He blesses that. You don’t need to climb a mountain to find Him. He meets you in the living room floor pile-up.

Verses 7–10
“Lift up your heads, you gates…
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle…
He is the King of glory.”

This is the victory cry! These verses were likely sung as David brought the Ark (God’s presence) into Jerusalem. But they also point forward to Jesus, the King of Glory, coming into our hearts, our homes, and one day, into the world again.

Mama, He’s not just a peaceful shepherd. He’s a warrior King. He fights for your peace, your kids, your weariness. He doesn’t sit back—He steps in. And when we invite Him into our mess, we get the whole power and glory of Heaven showing up in our everyday moments.

Try this with your little ones this week:

💛 Make a simple crown craft and talk about what makes Jesus the best King.

🎨 Draw something God made and say, “This belongs to God!”

📖 Memorize Psalm 24:1 or 24:7 together—it’s short and powerful.

For you, sweet mama:
Take a moment to journal or reflect:
“What area of my life or home do I need to ‘open the gates’ and let the King of Glory enter?”

Let’s be moms who declare with our lives, “Come in, King Jesus. This home is Yours.”
And even when we feel tired or small, let’s remember: the King of Glory is not. He is strong and mighty… and He’s with us.

💗🙌

Walk with Jesus, beside Him or behind Him. Never in front of Him
