When God told Moses to send men to explore the Promised Land, it wasn’t because He needed a scouting report. He already knew everything about the land—the grapes, the giants, the fortified cities, and the promise.
But the people didn’t.
And that’s often where we find ourselves as moms, isn’t it? Standing at the edge of something new—another baby, a homeschool year, a calling we didn’t feel “ready” for—and wondering why God is sending us to “explore” something He already knows.
In Numbers 13, God sent the Israelites to spy out the land not for His sake, but for theirs. To let them see it. Smell the fruit. Notice the beauty. Recognize the challenges. And most of all—to choose faith over fear.
It was never about the land.
It was always about their trust in the One who promised it.
Only two of the twelve spies—Joshua and Caleb—responded with courage. The rest saw obstacles. Giants. Danger. Sound familiar?
How many times have we peeked into a new season and said:
“I’m not strong enough for this.”
“What if I fail?”
“They’ll never listen.”
“This dream is too big.”
But what if God sends us into those spaces not to intimidate us, but to give us a chance to trust Him before the walls fall down?
Our “Spy Out” Moments as Moms
God gives us little “spy out the land” moments every day:
Trying a new homeschool rhythm
Teaching obedience with grace (when you’re already exhausted)
Opening your heart to a calling like writing, mentoring, or starting something new even just getting through the day with toddlers and dishes and prayer
Each one is a chance to say:
“Yes, Lord, there are giants… but YOU are bigger.”

You’re Not Failing—You’re Following
If you’re in a season where the land ahead feels unknown or overwhelming, take heart.
You’re not scouting it alone.
God is with you, and He already knows how it ends.
He’s just letting you see it… so you can grow your courage.
Reflection Question:
Where is God asking me to step forward in faith—even when I feel unsure?
Simple Prayer:
Lord, I don’t want to shrink back when I see giants. Give me the eyes of Caleb—to believe that the land You’ve promised is good, and You are faithful to carry me through it. Amen. 💛
