In just a few short weeks, our family is going to grow—we’re welcoming a brand-new baby! 🍼 While I waddle through my final month of pregnancy, I’ve also been preparing my heart (and home) for a new season of homeschooling with a newborn in tow.
Our oldest is five and entering kindergarten, and for us, homeschooling was a no-brainer. With everything going on in the world—and the way politics have seeped into public education—we knew we wanted something different. Something rooted in truth. 💛

We want him to grow strong not just in reading, writing, and math, but also in Scripture, character, and faith.
What I’m Preparing for—and Praying Through
To be honest, there are a few fears swirling around. Will I have the energy? Will I be enough? What if I fall short? 😟 But I’ve already seen my son’s joy in learning. A few weeks of phonics and he was reading simple words. That gave me so much hope and confidence.
And yes, part of me still wonders if he’ll miss out on the traditional “school experience”—recess, holiday programs, bus rides. But then I remember: 20-minute lunch breaks, 15-minute recess, and hours at a desk aren’t exactly what childhood should be made of. At home, we can learn for a little while and then run, play, explore, and be kids. ✨
A Gentle Plan for Our Days
I’m planning to start small and simple. We’ll do about 15–30 minutes of reading, writing, and math each day. Once baby is here and we find our new rhythm, I’ll gradually add in the other subjects our state requires.
Our days will start early—around 6 AM. Breakfast and Bible time at 7, then a little play while I clean up. Around 9, we’ll come together for story time and elementary memory work (I’ve got a whole post brewing on that 😉), then dive into our core subjects.
The newborn will be along for the ride, probably wrapped close to my chest in my beloved Boba wrap—because let’s be honest, that wrap is going to be my third arm. 🫶
What Curriculum I’m Prepping:
I’ve chosen open-and-go curriculum to keep things low-stress and realistic:
(I am not an amazon affiliate and do not get paid for these suggestions!
Jady A Elemental Phonics Book 1 You can find it here.
Jady A Writing Book You can find it here
The Good and the Beautiful: Kindergarten Language Arts & Math You can find it here, and also here!
I’m thinking a Monday–Thursday schedule, with Fridays reserved for grace—because we’re going to need that flexibility as we adjust. 💗
Centering It All on Christ
I want our homeschool days to be soaked in faith. We’ll have worship music playing in the background and pause to pray throughout the day. I’ve found that even now, as I plan and prepare, God keeps reminding me: You don’t walk this alone.
Philippians 4:13 will be my theme verse as I step into this new chapter: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” And when I feel the overwhelm creeping in, I’ll whisper, “Lord, help carry me.” Because He always will.
Encouragement for Other Mamas Planning Ahead
If you’re also about to welcome a new baby and start homeschooling, I want to gently remind you: GRACE is everything. You don’t need to do it all at once. Go slow. Keep your goals simple. Each meltdown is a moment to disciple, each mess an opportunity to train hearts.
The Lord entrusted you with your babies—He knew you could do this. And guess what?
You can.
One prayer, one cuddle, one math lesson at a time. 💕
